Messenger 'Sonoma Mountain' Malbec 2018
Malbec can be a challenge to grow and ripen but this vineyard, high up in the Sonoma Mountain AVA is a wondrous spot. With its eastern face sitting above the morning fog these grapes enjoy the added hours of ripening needed to make the fruit into a lush, robust yet refined powerhouse. Small, dense clusters of flavor ranging from damson, cocoa and sweet tobacco to pepper, violet and a finish of chocolatey richness.
Composition: 100% Malbec
Tasting Notes: The nose is classic Malbec with pronounced purple florals & fresh blueberries. On entry, the wine immediately shows more blueberry with an almost pie crust undertone. Blackberry, cocoa, and cassis begin to creep in alongside soft rosemary and sage herbal notes.
Pairings: Any range of grilled meats from beef to goat to lamb, empanadas, grilled or roasted root vegetable, and yellow or red curries.
Winemaker: Rob McDonald - Rob and Kat met in Australia when Kat left California for an opportunity working with a brewery took her from home. Three years later, Kat returned to the United States with Rob soon to follow. They founded an import group to bring many of their favorite Australian producers to the United States, Kat would attend law school, and they would plant many a vine to pursue making their own wines. Their parent portfolio holding, Art+Farm Wine, was founded in 2005 and they have been making wine ever since.
