Wine grapes were introduced to the Sierra Foothills during the 19th century gold rush. What has evolved is a delightfully eclectic collection of vineyards, dominated by growers who farm with old fashioned sensitivity. The conditions are ideal for Syrah to ripen perfectly, while the soils add complexity & richness.
Composition: 90 Syrah | 10 Tempranillo
Tasting Notes: The nose is immediately filled with rich, stewed strawberry vapor- like grandmother getting ready to can preserves. For Syrah, the wine shows deep edges of crimson and the palate is velveteen, yet fresh. The strawberry is ever present then held up by subtle bacon fat, menthol, leather and finally yields to Bing cherry.
Pairings: Roast bacon-wrapped pork loin or quail, Texas 'Twinkies', grilled broccolini, cannellini beans & farro, chocolate brownies, and double-cut breaded veal chops.
Winemaker: Kat & Rob McDonald - Rob and Kat met in Australia when Kat left California for an opportunity working with a brewery took her from home. Three years later, Kat returned to the United States with Rob soon to follow. They founded an import group to bring many of their favorite Australian producers to the United States, Kat would attend law school, and they would plant many a vine to pursue making their own wines. Their parent portfolio holding, Art+Farm Wine, was founded in 2005 and they have been making wine ever since.
