Moon Mountain District, on the eastern edge of Sonoma County, starts at 400 feet elevation and rises to 2200 feet above sea level; it’s dramatic & rugged. The combination of heat & elevation allow for fantastic ripening and fruit flavor development while maintaining an underlying level of sophistication.
Composition: 100% Zinfandel
Tasting Notes: The nose is surprising as wafts of soft, but rich blackberry & ground white pepper. The wine is immediately felt as a silky pull rolls along the mid-palate, carrying unmistakable Mission fig jam and a touch of plum. The tannins are soft, yet sticky and inviting, then broken up by cracked black pepper and a wildly well balanced finish.
Pairings: Lovely with classic Osso Buco on creamy polenta, herbed rack of lamb, Texas brisket barbeque, or even spicy braised Adobo tacos.
Winemaker: Kat & Rob McDonald - Rob and Kat met in Australia when Kat left California for an opportunity working with a brewery took her from home. Three years later, Kat returned to the United States with Rob soon to follow. They founded an import group to bring many of their favorite Australian producers to the United States, Kat would attend law school, and they would plant many a vine to pursue making their own wines. Their parent portfolio holding, Art+Farm Wine, was founded in 2005 and they have been making wine ever since.
